Elmia – Masterplan

The Elmia exhibition center in Jönköping has a vision of transitioning from a traditional exhibition and event organizer to an active, driving experience center where high tech and the environment go hand in hand.

Yellon has created a masterplan for the short-term and long-term development of the exhibition area towards becoming Sweden's greenest meeting place.

To enhance the exhibition and destination, the project covers an overall experience including food, logistics, venues, environments – and sustainability specifically.

A new exhibition hall maintains and develops the venue’s large trade fairs and events. Space is added beneath for a new production kitchen, deliveries, storage and workshops. The trend is that larger trade fairs are growing, while the smaller ones and events are becoming more numerous and competitive. The addition of a restaurant and flexible conference rooms one level above the new exhibition hall takes advantage of the view over Lake Vättern and provides more attractive meeting places.

A major advantage is the large green areas that will be continuously developed and enriched. A park-like green strip connects the new and older exhibition halls, optimizing logistics and clarifying flows, while providing an indoor view of the area’s outdoor qualities. Spaces with trees, plants and innovative cultivation sites supply the restaurants and cafes with ingredients. Natural material choices connect to Elmia’s historical and geographical proximity to forestry and agriculture.
