Mission

Helsingborgs Stad - Oceanbadet

Yellon, in collaboration with Lund+Slaatto Architects and landscape architects Bjørbekk & Lindheim, has won the architectural competition for Oceanbadet in Helsingborg. The competition, announced by Helsingborg City in cooperation with Sveriges Arkitekter, aims to develop a proposal for a new aquatic center that adds qualities ranging from the indoor experience to the cityscape.

From the Jury’s rationale:

“… a building with a very strong character that will strengthen Helsingborg as a destination.”

Our winning proposal is based on the site-specific qualities of the historic coastal city, in the dynamic between the industrial harbor and the city’s historic center.

Oceanbadet will have a unique position in the emerging new district of Oceanhamnen, and will leave a strong imprint on the public space around the entire harbor basin. Its distinctive design and immersive content will give it a strong identity that becomes a clear landmark and contributes to strengthening Helsingborg as a destination. Oceanbadet will be a building filled with content and joy. It will include a competition arena, teaching and training pools, water play and adventure areas, fitness facilities, and spaces for more sensory experiences of water, drawing from Helsingborg’s 150 years of bathing culture spiced with influences from other parts of the world.

Oceanbadet will be an open and inclusive facility for both Helsingborg residents and visitors, inspiring training, exercise, play, and water adventures. It will be both functional and generous, but it will also touch each sense with new and unexpected experiences for all.
