Mission

Satcube – Satcube Ku

Satcube Ku is a portable satellite receiver with the power to democratize the internet and connect the entire world. Yellon has designed the receivers interface and hardware, resulting in an award-winning user experience and significant market shares for Satcube.

Challenge

By providing connectivity in places without digital infrastructure or mobile coverage, Satcube Ku can facilitate expeditions, news broadcasts, and humanitarian efforts, among other applications. The various use cases demand high standards for product design, accessibility, and user-friendliness.

Solution

Satcube Ku weighs a comfortable 8 kilos and delivers up to 20 Mbps speed. It is easy to carry, simple to use, and provides a strong connection in less than a minute. Satcube Ku offers access to fast broadband worldwide.

A minute away from the outside world

To achieve user-friendliness, it’s essential to find a balance between analog and digital elements. All the switches and functions need to be carefully thought out. To establish a connection, the user positions Satcube Ku in an appropriate location and adjusts the direction towards satellites using various controls. The process is analog, but a digital assistant guides the user to the best connection. This combination enables the user to establish a strong connection in under a minute.

The Importance of Trial and Iteration

Together with Satcube, we developed several options for a digital interface. The goal was to provide users with educational information about the current status, and guidance on what needs to be done to achieve a stronger signal. By animating different functions and elements, we gained information that made it easy to test and evaluate the various proposals.

Easy Navigation and Adjustment

To simplify usage, we have developed a customized user interface with a clear and inviting appearance. The hole in the protective display allows analog button controls to be used, enabling Satcube Ku to be operated with gloves, which may be necessary in places like the North Pole and other isolated locations.

Full of Energy

An important part of our design process is to identify the product’s lifecycle to truly understand how and where it will be used. In addition to easy maintenance, high user-friendliness, and efficient production, the small details must be carefully considered. For example, it should be easy to identify which battery needs to be replaced and the replacement should be quick and hassle-free.

The Future is Launched

Satcube Ku works excellently today but will only get better. Thanks to the tens of thousands of satellites that various parties are launching into the stratosphere, connecting via satellite receivers will become even more straightforward.
