Yellon’s first passive house-certified building

Norrporten’s new extension to the Court of Appeal in Upper Norrland in Umeå has been certified as a Passive House of the Passive House Institute in Darmstadt. It’s an international award that is only given to real estates with an energy consumption of less than 15 kWh/square metres per year.

Prior to the projecting phase, everyone at Yellon passed a training class for passive housing and it is gratifying for us that our first passive house-certified building now has been completed and approved. Yellon submittted construction documents for Norrporten and the Court of Justice, which uses the premises. The original architect is Börje Falemo.

‘Domstolsverket wanted there to be transparency all the way into the waiting room, which was a major challenge as the thermal bridge of the glass is in direct conflict with the pursuit of energy efficiency required by a passive house,’ says Patrik Svensson, architect at Yellon. ‘It is therefore worth noting that you can build a passive house-certified building with such a large proportion of glass areas in the northern parts of Sweden.”
